"Canad Inns Fort Garry was the place to be on Oct. 27 as more than 325 people participated in the Healthy Aging Expo — Focus on Living event hosted by the Fort Garry Seniors Resource Council and Pembina Active Living 55+.

Rooms were filled with over 40 exhibitors and displays offering information regarding services, programs and products available to assist community members in maintaining an active lifestyle, mentally, physically and spiritually as they age.

People attended from all across Winnipeg, some coming by the busload from their local seniors centre. Rumour has it there were guests from as far away as Selkirk and Stonewall."

Geriatric Day Hospitals in Winnipeg

There are five Geriatric Day Hospital Programs in Winnipeg. 

Day Hospital Program: A program that provides assessment and rehabilitation services to promote healthy living for elderly clients in the community. A variety of health care professionals trained to work with older adults, 65 and over, are available. This includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Nurses, Social Workers, Geriatricians, Dieticians, etc.They utilize a team approach and attendance is usually once weekly for a short-term. Transportation can be arranged for a small fee.

Your physician has to be in agreement with the referral. Talk to your doctor if you think this is a program for you.

The Day Hospital referral form is filled out by the following people: Any primary health care provider. Referrals from health care professionals should be forwarded to the primary care provider for their agreement/approval. Hospital Inpatient Units, Emergency Departments and Geriatric Programs.
